Secondary Transition Project
The Secondary Transition Priority Project supports the projects reviewed below by providing leadership, resources, training, and technical assistance. The project aims to:
- Assist local districts in meeting the transition service requirements of IDEA 2004.
- Increase self-determination skills of students with disabilities.
- Provide training and resource materials on the transition process for educators, administrators, adult agency personnel, and parents.
- Improve graduation rates and post-school outcomes for students with disabilities.
Regional Acitivities
The project supports regional projects, including transition councils and college events, including
- Future Quest, a college and career forum for students with disabilities. Future Quest is held every other year on the George Mason University campus. It is free and all students with disabilities, their families, and professionals, who work with them, are welcome.
- Region IV Transition Council.
- Transition Practitioners’ Council, West.
Virginia College Quest
Virginia College Quest is a website that promotes college success for Virginia students with disabilities. It highlights considerations for college-bound students, lists contacts for offices of support services for students with disabilities at colleges and universities in Virginia, features certain programs, college instructors, and mentors who could be helpful to student with disabilities interested in post-secondary education.
State Transition Events
The project facilitates events for enhancing awareness and knowledge about secondary transition, including: practitioner’s councils and transition forums. It supports the annual Virginia Transition Forum.
