Reading and Math Instruction Networks

Students with mild to moderate disabilities are receiving instruction in general education classrooms whenever possible. Many of these students require additional support to address skill deficits in reading and mathematics. To focus on these areas, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has established reading and math networks comprised of representatives from VDOE and the state's regional Training and Technical Assistance Centers (T/TACs). The networks meet regularly to coordinate efforts to provide up-to-date information on effective strategies to support the inclusion and success of students with disabilities in the general education curriculum. Network activities include examination of data to ensure that T/TACs across Virginia are addressing regional needs, studying new book releases, sharing resources and reaching a better understanding of student skills necessary for success in reading and math.
